Organizers of the
Larkspur Flower and Food Festival are seeking donations and volunteers to ensure
the popular event takes place this May despite its loss of city funding. The
Larkspur Flower and Food Festival, scheduled for May 27, 2012 11:00 am - 6:00 pm
in downtown Larkspur, has been operating for more than two decades and attracted
some 3,000 to 4,000 people last year, said Joanie Connor, president of the
Larkspur Community Association, which runs the festival. The Magnolia Avenue
event typically costs around $30,000 to put on, with about half coming from
fundraising and half from the city contribution, she said. To donate, make out
checks of any amount to the Larkspur Community Association and mail to P.O. Box
652, Larkspur 94977. To become an association member or sign up to volunteer,
call Connor at 415-924-3808.
The association will hold a fundraiser on
March 28 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the American Legion Post 313 and is accepting
donations for the silent auction. Festival organizers are determined to make
sure the event takes place this year with the help of volunteers and donations.
Between 40 and 45 vendors are expected to set up booths at the festival, which
features live music.
